Fireworks over the Guadalupe church and the old town

Fireworks over the bay

New Year's Eve

The whole city ends up on the waterfront. The Malecón becomes a free open-air party with a stage, street food and music, and fireworks light up the bay at midnight — visible from almost anywhere along it.

What happens

  • The main celebration is free, on the Malecón in Centro, with a stage near the Lighthouse (El Faro).
  • Last year (2025) the program started around 7:30 pm, with live music, fireworks and a drone light show; the 2026 lineup is usually announced in December.
  • The fireworks last about 15–20 minutes and reflect across the bay.
  • Good viewpoints: the Malecón, the Los Muertos Pier, the Hotel Zone and Marina beachfronts, and the Conchas Chinas terraces.

Local tips

  • You can see the fireworks from most of the waterfront — don't race across town at 11:50 pm.
  • Book New Year's Eve dinner and any boat or show tickets well ahead; set menus are common that night.
  • Taxis are scarce after midnight — stay walking distance from the Malecón, or plan your ride home in advance.
