Zona Romántica is Puerto Vallarta's densest tourist zone — LGBTQ+ friendly, walkable, with the city's highest concentration of restaurants and bars. Marina Vallarta is an upscale marina district with yacht clubs, golf, and resort hotels — quieter and more family/resort-oriented, with far less nightlife. Pick Zona Romántica for walkable nightlife and restaurant density; pick Marina Vallarta for a quieter resort base near the airport and golf.
Centro is Puerto Vallarta's historic downtown around the Malecón boardwalk, mixing tourist and local businesses near the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Zona Romántica, just south, is denser with tourists, more LGBTQ+ friendly, and has the city's highest restaurant/bar concentration. Fluvial Vallarta is a modern planned residential zone further north — newer condos, chain supermarkets, cafes and gyms, solidly middle-class and local rather than resort-oriented. Choose Hotel Zone for beachfront resort convenience; choose Fluvial Vallarta for a real residential neighborhood at a lower price point.
